There’s so much stuff out there, it’s hard to know where to start. Here are some of the places I come back to again and again.
Ham radio
- HF Signals: Get the BITX40, a functional 40m HF radio for $59 shipped! You’ll need to solder a few things, and provide a power supply and a case, but still.
- BITX Hacks: Tips, tricks, and tweaks for the BITX40.
- K7AGE: YouTube channel about all things ham.
- SurvivalTech Nord: Man-portable DX and QRP galore. Slow server; be patient.
- Amateur Radio subreddit: Great place to ask questions and see what’s current.
- SolderSmoke: Homebrew radio blog and podcast.
- Linux in the Ham Shack: Because you’re totally caught up on all your other podcasts, right?
- WSPRnet Map: Current real-world signal propagation reports on all ham bands. Looks like a fun project to contribute data to as well.
- PSK Automatic Propagation Reporter: See if/where your PSK signal is getting heard.
- Bandplans: Quick and dirty frequency lookup for any mode you can think of.
- HamQSL: Embeddable atmospheric reports like this one:
Blinkylights and general nerdery
- Blondihacks: Scratch-built computers, board repairs, metalworking, and so forth. Lots of what-not-to-do, as she shows her mistakes too.
- Hackaday: Fresh hacks daily. Arduino, 3D printing, you name it.
- Digi-Key: Electronic parts. If they ain’t got it, you don’t need it.
- Adafruit: Well, except these things. You need all these things.
- AliExpress: And these things. Want 7 Arduino Nanos for under $20 shipped? Yes. You know you do.
